Hurom Juicing 101: Recycle Your Juice Pulp with Basic Bio Composting

If you're a regular juicer who's continually scrapping veggies and pulp, you may wonder sustainable ways to recycle the pulp. Here at Hurom, we're very serious about making a small eco-footprint, so we've come up with ways to reuse the pulp such as cooking omelettes with it or making dog treats. What we haven't discussed is bio composting to recycle the food waste.

Here's why we think you should know this, and how you can start:

1. Save Mother Earth
Composting can reduce household waste as much as 30% [1]. This is important because when organic matter (like food waste) hits the landfill, it creates harmful methane gas as it breaks down and increases the rate of global warming and climate change.

2. Fertilize your garden with all-natural, environment-friendly alternative
Compost is a free, efficient, and environmentally-friendly alternative to high phosphorous chemical fertilizers. Compost will also help with aerating the soil and introducing rich humus for your lawn and garden with its beneficial organisms [2].

3. I'm in - how do I start?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends a couple of ways to make your own compost, and it is mainly based on where you live. If you live in an urban area with no outdoor space, you can purchase a worm bin (vermicomposting) that will convert your waste into nutrient rich organic fertilizer. If you live in a suburban/rural are with ample outdoor space, you can use en encolsed bin or compost tumbler that lives in a shady area of your backyard.
