Can You Juice Frozen Fruit? Recipes and Guides

juin 27, 2025

Wondering if you can make juice out of frozen fruit? Absolutely, and in this guide, I’ll show you how. Also, I’ll share how you can use frozen fruits in a juicer to make juice, smoothies, or sorbets.

Freezing fruits is a great way to avoid food waste. It’s also a smart way to have seasonal fruits all year long. But once frozen, it may not be the same as fresh juice. So, consider juicing your frozen fruits with a Hurom juicer that works well even with frozen ingredients.

Let’s get started!

Can You Make Juice Out of Frozen Fruit?

Yes, you can make juice out of frozen fruit if it’s thawed. Frozen fruit that’s not thawed properly may be used for making sorbets or smoothies.

I don't advise you to use thawed frozen fruit for juice because it won't have the best texture. It might be mushy (kind of like a slushie or fruit puree). However, this also depends on your juicer, as some juicers can make sorbet with frozen fruit, often with a dedicated attachment.

Hurom slow juicers can work with frozen fruit, but the results may be different depending on whether the ingredients are completely frozen or thawed. With frozen fruits, you’d get a sorbet-like consistency, but with thawed fruits, you’ll get juice with some bits of pulp (depending on the model).

Can You Add Frozen Fruit Right into a Juicer?

I recommend thawing frozen fruits before adding them to a juicer. While some juicers can handle hard, frozen ingredients, others may struggle to press juice from them and could even get clogged.

If your juicer has a setting or accessory for making ice cream or sorbet, then you can add frozen fruit directly without thawing. For example, the Hurom H70 can make sorbet with frozen fruits without any special strainer.

I would suggest reading your juicer's user manual to ensure that it’s safe to add hard, frozen fruits and berries without thawing first. In other words, check if your juicer can make sorbet or ice cream, as that’s when you’d want to add frozen fruit to it.

Does Freezing Fruits Affect Nutrients and Texture in the Juice?

Freezing fruits may not affect the nutrients, but it can impact the texture, color, and, in some cases, taste, too

Most of the weight of fruits comes from water. Once the fruit is frozen, the water in it expands, which, in turn, tears the soft cellular walls. That’s why frozen fruits get a little mushy once they thaw. Moreover, freezing stops enzyme activity, which is usually the cause behind discoloring, loss of nutrients, and flavor changes.

In my experience, though, if fruits aren’t packed properly, they can still get exposed to air. That’s when you might notice that dull color or odd, oxidized taste.

To keep the texture, color, and taste as close to fresh as possible, I always make sure to pack fruits in an air-tight container before freezing.

What Are the Best Frozen Fruits for Juices?

Frozen berries, cherries, citrus fruits, mango, and stone fruits like plums and peaches are the best frozen fruits for juices. For smoothies, you can use frozen berries, bananas, apples, mangoes, and pineapples.

If you want to make juice from these frozen fruits, I suggest thawing them first. However, for smoothies, you don’t need to thaw the fruits. Just chuck them into a blender and blend until smooth

Which Fruits Shouldn’t Be Frozen for Juicing?

Fresh fruits with very high water content, like watermelons, cantaloupes, and cucumbers, should not be frozen. These fruits can get mushy once thawed and not have the same texture or taste as they do when fresh.

The same can be said for citrus fruits. For instance, oranges and grapefruits can be difficult to peel once thawed after freezing. It’s best to peel them first and separate the slices before freezing them in an airtight bag or container. The thawed slices can be used for juicing.
